Beyond Wealth: The True Measure of a 5 Year Millionaire

In this episode, I discuss the importance of life beyond the financial wealth. With the recent passing of my good friend John Buckert and the birthday of my mother that I lost last August, I'm reminded that life is short. Becoming a 5 Year Millionaire should not just be a financial objective, but a mental and physical one as well. We've all heard the quote "the best time to plant a tree was 5 years ago, the second best time is now" - meaning that your journey has to start somewhere, so why not now?

The Nature of Material Wealth

I stumbled upon a profound quote on Instagram recently: "Someday, strangers will live in our houses that we worked so hard for. Someday, our cars that we once treasured will end up in the scrap yard. And someday, the money we worked so hard for, someone else will spend." This really had me thinking about the true essence of our lives.

I've often looked at my house, situated beautifully by the lake in Michigan, and realized that the original builders, whose dream this home once was, are long gone. Someone else now values this as their safe haven. The same goes for cars that we once cherished; eventually, they end up in junkyards or sold for parts. The money we accumulate often gets spent by others, either through inheritance or philanthropy. This perspective prompted me to reevaluate what it means to be truly wealthy.

The Wealth of Physical Health

Making money and becoming a millionaire is one thing, but what does it mean to have millionaire health? Your physical health is a critical, often overlooked component of wealth. Rick Ross once said, "I would give you all the wealth if I could have my health." This sentiment came after he faced a life-threatening health issue. He realized that without health, no amount of money holds value.

Recently, I've started a routine of drinking a half-gallon of water a day and hitting the gym. I’ve been focusing on how to become a millionaire not just financially, but in my physical health too. Imagine a five-year plan – not just to accumulate wealth, but to lose weight, get fit, maintain mobility as you age. Wouldn't that be worth a million dollars to you?

Life is Both Long and Short

As I reflect upon the anniversary of my mother’s passing and the sudden loss of my buddy John, I realize that true wealth encompasses good health, mental well-being, and fulfilling relationships. Aim to be a millionaire in these aspects too. Life is both short and long, and we don’t know how much time we have left. Make every moment count by investing meaningfully in the things that truly matter.

For My Mother and John

So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy." John 16:22
